Sometimes, It Is Good to Take a Long Walk.

This is my oldest furbaby, Lucy. She enjoys long walks in the country and chasing squirrels.

Sometimes, it is good to take a long walk and to have a nice conversation with God. To find beauty that can never be duplicated.

Sometimes, it is good to take a long walk and to look around the old homestead. To find the place that memories began.

Sometimes, it is good to take a long walk and to rest under the trees. To look up and gain a new perspective.

Sometimes, it is good to take a long walk.

There is nothing better than walking to restore the soul and for remembering days gone by. On a recent walk around the place I grew up, I spent a good bit of time taking photos of and remembering Mr. Luther’s house.  When I was a little girl, the Coca Cola truck delivered cases of “The Real Thing” to his house.  How I loved visiting Mr. Luther and Ms. Vera!  Sitting on the front porch, sipping a real Coca Cola and listening to all the old men tell their stories while smoking their pipes and rolling their cigarettes. If I close my eyes, I can smell the tobacco and see the fireflies. Sweet memories of neighbors gathering–they were in no rush, and there were no noisy distractions. Yes, indeed! Sometimes, it is good to take a long walk.

Here’s my challenge for all of us. Let us take an hour or two each week and turn off all the noise and the distractions. Let us sit a spell with a good cup of coffee and chat or take a long walk and reflect.
