Hey, y’all! Welcome to Sweet Sorghum Living–a place to sit a spell with a good cup of coffee and enjoy good conversation. Today on the blog, we are chatting about the fall foliage that the hubby and I spied while adventuring in and around Damascus, Virginia. I apologize for all the photos, but I could not choose my favorites! Each photo had a pop of color or a view that captured my heart.
Now, I have to tell y’all a quick story before we take a look at all the photos. The hubby surprised me with this little trip. I know what y’all are thinking–“How sweet and romantic.” Sweet idea, yes. Romantic, sort of–if you count holding onto the hubby’s arm for dear life romantic. Here is what happened. The destination was entered into Google maps on the hubby’s phone. Hubby decided to take the alternate route. This took us up a steep mountain–ravine to the left (one wrong move and death) and mountain side to the right. Did I mention that the “road” was more like a path–barely wide enough for one car? I guess a better description is a narrow, gravel path with lots and lots of curves–more like 90 degree angles. We had no cell service for miles. No one knew where we were, and I had no extra diabetic supplies. I am not going to lie. I cried–not happy tears. I sang “Jesus Loves Me” to calm myself down because my heart was racing. And I prayed that God would see us back to civilization, that our car would not break down, and that we would not meet another vehicle on the tiny road because there was no where to go…no where to pull over. As y’all can tell, I am not a wild adventurer. I do not camp or glamp. And I prefer clean restrooms with sinks and running water.
We finally made it to our destination–Whitetop in Damascus, Virginia. Looking back, the tears were worth it. Would I do it again? Yes, but not taking the path that we took *smile*

The hubby found a safe place to pull over, and we snapped lots of photos…and hugged out the poor path choice *smile*

We found this little church shortly after we survived the narrow, dirt road. We pulled over and had a prayer of thanksgiving.
Thanks y’all for sitting a spell with me today as we looked at my fall foliage adventure in and around Damascus. Feel free to comment with your favorite fall foliage spots, share your photos on the Facebook page, or hashtag #SSLFallFoliage on Instagram.
