Hey, y’all! I am so excited to share this blog post with you for so many reasons…I am so buzzed about it that I don’t even know where to start *wink* First of all, it makes my heart smile to see downtown Johnson City growing and having awesome events like BuzzFest, Blue Plum, and the new Little Chicago Downtown Music and Arts Festival. When there is great music, food, and art–they will come *big smile*
“Bee True To Who You Are” available at The Local Company in downtown Johnson City. The LoCo will be donating 5% of all bee-related sales now thru May 5th. They will also be hosting an artist’s demo + a kid’s drawing and coloring contest. To learn more about this bee-tastic event and JC’s passion for bees, visit What’s the Buzz Johnson City’s Facebook page here.
Not only will people come for great food and art, they will also come to support a great local event that will celebrate the invaluable life of bees. BuzzFest celebrates the many ways you can invite honeybees and other pollinators into your own backyard through bee-centric beekeeping, cultivation, and preservation of pollinator friendly gardens and green spaces. Join us [for BuzzFest on Friday, May 6] to welcome Johnson City’s own BEE QUEEN and her handmaidens. Learn about pollinator gardening, beekeeping essentials, and other fun activities for the family. All of this and more is happening at First Friday in May in downtown Johnson City. Y’all will not want to miss this!
I was really happy when I learned about BuzzFest from Sara Fagley, owner of The Local Company, because bees truly are invaluable + they work sooo hard for us–no questions asked, no complaints. All they “ask” is we provide them with what they need (and not destroy what they need or them with crazy sprays and such). It really isn’t that hard to live in harmony with nature…and with each other. We just need to work together better *big smile*
This celebration got me to thinking about the beginnings of Lolly Molly Art–which started because I wanted to decorate my daughter’s room with cute and functional art. (This was waaaayyyy before Pinterest and Etsy!). Long story short–Lolly Molly went beyond cute art pieces. Over the years, I have created political works, furniture, assemblages, abstracts….Basically, whatever I have dreamed up in my head…I have tried to bring to life.
To help celebrate BuzzFest, I wanted to go back to the roots…I wanted to create cute, whimsical, engaging bees…bees that make people smile…feel childlike…because children are open to new ideas and learning. Just like us adults should be!
Now, without further ado and before I wander off topic and ramble on for days, here is a little “scrapbook” of photos of “Bee True To Who You Are”–an original painting by me inspired from drawings from my sketchbook dated 1998 (yikes!).
Thanks so much for sitting a spell with me today for the buzz on BuzzFest + the reveal of Bee True To Who You Are. Stay tuned tomorrow for the bee string art that I created for this special event + where the bee string art kits will be available for purchase.
