Hi! My name is Chasidy Hathorn, the founding author of Sweet Sorghum Living and an emerging artist who is addicted to rusty metal and coffee (but who isn’t *wink*). I created Sweet Sorghum Living as a way to share all the randomness in my life–from home renovation projects (Bless! There have been so many!) to gluten-free goodies (because I have Celiac Disease, not because I am trendy…because I am so not trendy or hip or cool).

Since I was a little girl, I have loved sparkly things, rusty treasures, and vivid storytelling. Artistry and woodworking are in my blood. Back in the day, my mom was a fabulous seamstress, DIYer (way before Pinterest made it cool), and cake decorator (way before TV made it cool). From watching my granddaddy craft a small log cabin for my older sister to watching my dad build furniture for my childhood home, I have found creative ways to incorporate these precious memories into my art, home projects, and blog.ย Yes, creating and storytelling are in my blood–my heart and soul.

Spunky and Adorable

I have always been a little spit fire.

Originally from Mississippi, I’m currently living in a 1920 home in Johnson City, Tennessee with the hubby, daughter (who is in college and enjoying dorm life), and three furbabies. When I’m not in my studio creating or busy styling for clients, I am volunteering for various local organizations, taking art and gardening classes, blogging my random adventures and projects, and exploring the areas around me looking for junky treasures and inspiration for the next art piece. I recently exhibited at the Journeys for Women Art Show, the 4th Annual Juried Art Exhibition at The McKinney Center, and Art on the Walls at One Acre Cafe in Johnson City.

Follow me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest for home inspiration, gluten-free recipes, and photos of my art + home (okay…I admit there are more photos of my furbabies than art, but I can’t help myself because they are soooo adorable and funny!).

Thanks so much for sitting a spell with me!

  1. I have been reading through a few of your posts this morning. You have such an inspiring blog! You are also fortunate to have such a clever husband. I love mine but he couldn’t see a straight line even if it hit him in the face! And as for DIY….well!! Thank-you so much for visiting my blog and for the follow.

  2. I live in Richland va and I have started using Annie slone paint but I haven’t been able to locate any place in our area that sells it. Could you tell me where I could purchase it? Thank you

    • Hey Carol! I apologize for the delay in answering your comment. My latest blog post explains why I have been a bit overwhelmed these days. I blog for fun and just to share my adventures in hopes of helping. I am in no way compensated by the products and brands about which I blog. I purchase my Annie Sloan paint from a place in Jonesborough, Tennessee called One.40.Four. I know you can order it online through various websites, but I have never ordered it. There is a Valspar Chalky Paint Finish available at Lowe’s that I also love. It is priced a little lower, is available in many pretty colors, and is easy to use. I recommend going to your local Lowe’s and chatting with the paint department about the Valspar Chalky Finish Paint or planning a trip to Jonesborough–the oldest town in Tennessee and home of the International Storytelling Center! Thanks so much for sitting a spell with me and for your question *hugs* Chasidy

  3. Don’t ya just love Johnson City! I’m from Erwin but have lived in Soddy Daisy, TN (Chattanooga) for 32 years now. My heart will forever belong to those mountains in East Tennessee…I can’t wait to read your blog.

    • I do love this entire area! It has been an adjustment for me, but it is so easy to fall in love with the mountains and the sweet people that live here. Thank you for visiting my blog. I apologize for it taking so long for me to respond! Check out my latest post to find out why I have been away from Sweet Sorghum Living! Big hugs, Chasidy **p.s I adore Chattanooga! What a gorgeous city filled with so many wonderful things to do and see!**
