Hey, y’all! Welcome to Sweet Sorghum Living–a place to sit a spell with a good cup of coffee and enjoy good conversations about everything from home renovation projects to random road trips. Today on the blog, I am chatting about the gluten-free top picks of the week.

I know that it has been a bit since we chatted about gluten-free food finds, but I have been running around like mad trying to get all of my Etsy orders packed and shipped. I am not complaining, but some days I wish there were more than one of me *wink*

Because I am really busy with everything from laundry to walking the furbabies + dedicating every spare moment to creating new art pieces, writing Etsy listings, and marketing my shop, I don’t have time for elaborate meals or snacks. So, when I go to the grocery store, I look for simple + quick + good.

I picked up this quick + easy muffin mix at Whole Foods in Asheville.

I love muffins. I really do. And I really love muffins with fresh fruit added to them. I discovered a delicious and easy muffin mix at Whole Foods Market in Asheville and added fresh strawberries from Stanley’s Produce & Garden Center in Johnson City. By the way, y’all have to try the strawberries from Stanley’s–oh.my.goodness! They smell divine and taste deliciously sweet. Where was I? Oh, yes! The muffin mix *smile*

20150512_102514_resized20150512_102624_resized20150512_102645_resizedI really wish I could tell y’all that I eat kale for breakfast, but I don’t…and probably never will…I guess I would eat kale for breakfast, if I were forced to…or if I had to save the world from destruction…

What I can tell y’all is I do like to eat (on occasion–not like everyday) powdered donuts for breakfast…and brunch…and late night snacks.

Finding a gluten-free version proved to be a challenge. But I didn’t give up. And I found one that is sooooo good. Even the hubby loves them–which that says a lot! Personally, I love eating them straight out of the freezer–slightly thawed–but not too thawed.

If you have a favorite gluten-free muffin mix or donut brand, please share it with us!

SSL’s Gluten-free Top Picks of the Week: Freschetta Pizza, Sahale Snacks, and Bobo’s Oat Bars

20150318_135405-1_resizedHey, y’all! Welcome to Sweet Sorghum Living–a place to sit a spell with a good cup of coffee and enjoy good conversation about everything from handmade goodness to gluten-free goodies. Today on the blog, we are chatting about this week’s gluten-free top picks–which is all about pizza, pecans, and Bobo’s deliciousness.

First up, pizza. Y’all know how much I love pizza. Honestly, it is my favorite food group *wink* A friend of mine, Rachel–who is an amazing artisan, shared Freschetta Gluten Free pizza with me. I had no idea that Freschetta had such an option–and I am so glad that Rachel told me about it. Overall, the flavor is good, and the crust is delicious and crispy–but I must warn you to watch it while it cooks because it seems to burn quickly. Like from almost done to super done in a matter of a couple of minutes!! For a snacking pizza, this one is great, but to me–it does not have that “meal” feel.

P.S. This is not a dairy-free pizza + it does contain soy. It makes me happy to see larger companies embracing the gluten-free demand…but I would love to see larger companies embracing more organic ingredients as well. Support those local, small farms, big companies out there!

20150318_135438-1_resizedNext up, is nuts *wink* well, just pecans *smile* Sahale Valdosta Pecans make for a perfect crunchy, salty + sweet snack, and they are a great substitute for croutons. I discovered these accidentally at Ingles in Johnson City while checking the snack aisles for new gluten-free goodies to try. There are a few flavor varieties in this brand, but this one by far is my favorite.

20150318_135838-1_resized20150318_135936-1_resizedThe last pick of the day is Bobo’s Oat Bars. My daughter loves these–she eats them for breakfast and for mid-afternoon snacks. They are a perfect on-the-go item that fits easily into a purse or backpack. There are several gluten-free flavors from which to choose, but the peach is one of Abby’s favorites.

Remember what doesn’t bother me–might bother you–so please, please be careful when trying new foods, and don’t forget to read those labels!

SSL’s Gluten-Free Top Picks of the Week: Soups, Mac ‘n Cheese, and a Breakfast Burrito

Soup + grilled cheese + Netflix marathon = perfect way to enjoy the chilly temps

Soup + grilled cheese + Netflix marathon = perfect way to enjoy the chilly temps

Hey, y’all! Welcome to Sweet Sorghum Living–a place to sit a spell with a good cup of coffee and enjoy good conversation about everything from gluten-free goodies to handmade goodness.

I do hope that all of you had a very happy holiday season. If y’all were like me, y’all were here, yonder, and everywhere. Whew! It feels good to be back on a regular schedule *smile*

Later on this week, we will recap the best of 2014, however, today on the blog, we are taking a look at the top gluten-free picks of the week. With the temps being so ridiculously chilly, I decided to stock up on soups, mac n’ cheese, and breakfast burritos (which are also great for lunch *wink*). Life is busy–and I have no time to make soup from scratch–much less make breakfast…so I went on a hunt for delicious and easy…and found it!

Pacific has several delicious soups that are organic, gluten free, and vegetarian friendly. The Rosemary Potato is one of my favorites, but due to its high carb count--I indulge occasionally! I am really trying to manage my Type 1 diabetes better *smile*

Love this with a grilled cheese sandwich or with cheese crisps (basically shredded cheese cooked on a griddle).

It tastes much better than it looks *wink* And the key to a successful burrito is the moist paper towel! Do not skip that step *smile*
