Hey, y’all! Welcome to Sweet Sorghum Living–a place to sit a spell with a good cup of coffee and enjoy good conversation. This week we have been holiday touring Hathorn Hall–a 1920 home in Johnson City, Tennessee. Several months ago, the hubby and I bought this renovated gem, and we have been personalizing since day one. But thankfully, these are fun projects–not the nightmare ones we had with Sloss Castle! Any who. Enough chit chat about renovating. Y’all come on in and sit a spell in the dining room–which I will fully reveal with details on a later post.

The middle nutcracker was painted by Gran. This is one sweet, talented lady! I am so happy to have so many awesome treasures from her *smile*

The butler's pantry needed a little touch of Christmas.

The butler’s pantry needed a little touch of Christmas.

Today, I decided to switch a few things around because Abby got me this darling Cypress Christmas tree. So, I put it in the butler's pantry + a vintage Santa and moved the platters to the kitchen. It is always a work-in-progress around here *smile*

Yesterday a nice lady asked me for my best Christmas decorating advice. I am no expert, but I would say decorate with what you love, with what means the most…display your collections together (Santas, snowmen, nutcrackers, trees…). Most of all–have fun with it and get your family involved with the decking of the halls *smile*

IMG_8625Before y’all go, I wanted to share with y’all a new Lolly Molly Art collection on which I am working + from where the inspiration came. Well, I am currently designing, building, and painting little wooden houses (from salvaged wood and other salvaged materials) because we have moved and renovated so much in the past few years that houses have become a part of who I am. *Stay tuned to an upcoming handmade goodness post all about my favorite artists that create little houses.

One of the little houses in the Little Pink House collection. This particular house was designed for and donated to the online fundraising auction that Sparkle Cat Rescue is currently having. If you look closely, there is a little kitty peeking out of the pet door.

Another little house that is currently featured on the Sparkle Cat Rescue online auction. It is the perfect time of year to give and help these precious babies find a warm house to live in furever. And I bet y'all thought I was just a "dog person"--nope, I grew up on a small farm in Mississippi. I love most animals...bears scare me...they are cute as cubs...but they terrify me...even at the zoo!

There is so much goodness on the Sparkle Cat Rescue online auction–from jewelry to personally autographed Jeanne Robertson’s DVDs. I am currently bidding on a darling piece of pottery because I love pottery, a snowflake print because it reminds me of how awesome God is, and an autographed Jeanne Robertson DVD. There is nothing better than a bidding war *wink*

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Hathorn Hall, and this week on the blog the Hathorns are inviting y’all to join us for our holiday home tour. The hubby has been super sweet to help me get things gussied up a bit + he took all the photos for me. He is the best *awww, sweet moment* Even though we still have a few projects going on, we wanted to deck the halls as much as possible this year because for the past few years, we have been way too crazy, busy renovating to decorate! Pssst. Don’t tell the hubby, but next year…I am really going to deck the halls!!

That is enough chit chat. Let’s get started with today’s tour–the front porch in the daylight. Stay tuned for the front porch all lit up at night–it is a little Griswold-like *wink*

After much debate, I kept the milk can on the porch and added a big, festive bow to it.
